Preparing for Christmas and ahead - part 3

Preparing for Christmas and ahead - part 2

"Emerging" oil on canvas
 Yes I feel very grateful this year !
Continuing on from all the Angels that have flown to new homes, I also sold some paintings and finished two especially commissioned works for clients for Christmas. And now that the gift giving has passed, I can safely share these works. I guess they couldn't be further apart, but that is the fun of commissions. I am in love with the Angel "Emerging", I could easily have kept her myself, but I know she went to a super home, so I am at peace with that.
I enjoyed making both of these. You know I like to tell stories with my paintings and I hope I succeeded here again.
{Hades is of course the third brother in the series I did for the same client over the last few years. -Poseidon -click the link- in 2011 and Zeus -click link- in 2012}

"Hades and Cerberus" acrylic and liquid graphite on canvas

Preparing for Christmas and ahead - part 1

Firstly: I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas ! I managed to slow down and enjoy the family after a very hectic year. I am grateful beyond words for having each other and for having the time to spend together. I know I haven't been around here much, I am sorry, it just go so busy close to Christmas. Not only with all the kids end-of-year happenings, but also with work commitments, commissions etc.  Many Angels I made ended up under Christmas trees this year and found good new homes. Thank you all for choosing some of my driftwood creations, I realize that there is a lot of choice around and I am truly grateful for all your support ! I just love making them, the woodburning calms me down and it's always a surprise what the burner reveals when I start following aspects present in each of the wood pieces.You can always find these creations here ♥

Incognito series

Incognito - "Soft Parade" - 12 inch square

Incognito - "the arms of comfort" - 12 inch square
Today I made a little delivery trip: delivered two new paintings for an exhibition opening tomorrow at Creative Tauranga. They are two more in my latest "Incognito" series.These ones are more aquatic themed, I am really happy with how the colors turned out. It always is a bit of a gamble with these kind of backgrounds. I don't have full control over these first stages, but I like that part of it. After the first layers dry I "find" something hidden and work on that until the full image appears. Incognito / hidden / camouflaged. I also delivered these two to Lightwave Gallery in the Mount

Dwellings I and II
 and yesterday these boys went to Turner Gallery in Te Puna

Minis Exhibit

"Incognito 1" and "Incognito 2" - Mixed Media on 12 inch square stretched canvas

This week I managed to deliver two painting for the MINIS exhibit at Gallery59 (see pictures here above) The opening was on Thursday and the works looked so great all together ! A really cool concept they started last year and now is an annual event. My life has been so hectic lately with the sudden move of house added to the already busy time of year. I feel like I've been on a roller coaster ride and it still hasn't stopped. The boxes are still not all unpacked. In the mean time I am grateful for the little things and the moments I can steal for my own art. I am so happy I have my little studio where I can escape a bit and enjoy  time by myself. Look how lovely it looks at the moment in the Historic Village, the flowers are starting to come out :)
